Analysing radio shows
Radio 5 Live was launched in March 1994 as a repositioning of the original Radio 5, which was launched on 27 August 1990. This is different to the radio stations i usually listen too. Usually I listen to radio shows that specialise in playing the latest, and most popular music. Whereas, Radio 5 is the BBC's national radio service that only specialises in live BBC News, phone-ins, interviews and sports commentaries.
This radio show broadcasts an extremely wide range of sports and covers all the major sporting events. For example, some of the sports they talk about are: Olympic games, the World cup, rugby, golf etc..
The station now broadcasts from MediaCityUK in Salford, where a lot of radio stations and advertisements are produced.
There are three different types of presenters on BBC Radio 5 Live and they are all specialised in one subject that they talk about on air, there are news presenters, sport readers and travel readers.
They all have there own shows on Radio 5 live, for example a sports reader will be presenting the 'sports report', or '5 Live sport', etc. As for a news reader or travel reader, they will present shows about the latest news on what is going on right now, for example they will present 'morning reports' or '5 Live breakfast' .
In my opinion, I don't find this radio station very interesting, but only because it doesn't fit my age
group and I find sport news quite boring. I prefer radio stations like radio 1, as it includes the latest new tracks and i prefer to listen to music rather than to interviews or sport. However I think the target audience for this would be between the ages of 18-40 year olds, because some young people (mainly men) would listen to check on the sport news.
